Empowering Women
In May 2019, our Board of Directors entered a strategic dialogue to identify our local priorities and impact focus areas. While we know that there are many, many areas that are critical to racial justice and gender equality, our leadership chose the following areas to focus on – Women’s Access to Healthcare, Recidivism and Reentry, and Census 2020 and Immigration in addition to our enhancing and expanding our community services.
Empowered Women Empower Women. We are committed to providing programs and services that equip women with the tools they need to impact their lives, their family’s lives, and the lives of women around them for the better. With a focus on economic equality, our financial literacy programs put women in control of their financial future.
Own It! Financial Education Program
YWCA is dedicated to providing economic empowerment programs. The Own It! Financial Education Program is a four-week program that gives women and their families the skills and tools to own their financial future. The Own It! program is taught by volunteers from the financial industry and covers topics such as saving for the future, budgeting, using credit wisely, and managing a bank account. All Own It! participants receive financial coaching that helps deepen the skills they learned as well as providing individual support and guidance in reaching goals in other aspects of their life. Our Own It! series of financial literacy programs are the safe spaces you can come to ask the questions you’ve been afraid to ask.
After applying what I learned from the Own It Budgeting class, I was able to increase my savings from $25 to $1,500!
Own It!: Your Career
Created for working women, Own It!: Your Career teaches women to confidently evaluate, negotiate, and articulate their worth in the job market. You will gain powerful skills to advocate for yourself and your family and network and connect with a community of like-minded women, to close the gender pay gap.
Week Without Violence
Week Without Violence is part of a global YWCA movement and around the world to end violence against women and girls. At YWCA, we know that gender violence is not recognized equally and is often ignored and unrecognized. That’s why, for more than 20 years, YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence.
