our Mission, vision, and values

We are the movement that creates understanding and impact related to issues of racial justice and gender equality.

The mission of YWCA is to eliminate racism, empower women, and provide dignity, freedom, peace, and justice for all.

YWCA has been at the forefront of the most pressing social movements for more than 100 years — from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, from violence prevention to health care reform. Today, we combine programming and advocacy in order to generate institutional change in three key areas: racial justice and civil rights, empowerment and economic advancement of women and girls, and health and safety of women and girls. YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix is part of an international movement in 122 countries worldwide.

Our Vision

By harnessing the potential of every woman, YWCA brings real change to the fight for gender equality and racial justice. These are the building blocks for a world where social justice exists for all.

Our Values

Courage

We have the collective strength to face the biggest challenges and work toward a more just and equitable society that benefits everyone.

Compassion

We believe that impacting lives begins with understanding individual needs. We listen, we learn, and we respond.

Commitment

We are the oldest and largest multiracial women’s organization in the world. We have always been – and will always continue to be – leaders for racial justice and women’s empowerment.
